International Women's Day 2023 - How we're working to #EmbraceEquity at JUSTICE Professional
The theme of International Women’s Day 2023 #IWD2023 is #EmbraceEquity. The JUSTICE Professional team appreciate that…
Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have.
A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA.
And it's critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.
To further unpack this, we caught up with 4 of our team members…
Amber – CEO, JUSTICE Professional
Amber, tell us about a woman who inspires you!
"I’m inspired by a pioneering Australian woman named Nancy Bird.
I completed an assignment on Nancy when I was in primary school, who at the age of 19 become the youngest Australian woman to gain a pilot's licence. To this day her story of leading the way for young women in her industry through her passion for aviation is a source of inspiration for me in my career as a leader in Australian hair and beauty retailing at JUSTICE.
Her story proves that young women can achieve anything they put their mind to, and to always follow your passion and have faith in your ability. Self-belief is critical."
What does #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
"To me #EmbraceEquity means providing equal opportunities for everyone, and identifying and removing bias across every aspect of our operations.
As a business leader I recognise that research shows inclusive workplaces deliver better outcomes for everyone, so encouraging everybody to share their voice and supporting their creations isn’t something we just do today, it’s just business as usual for JUSTICE.
I recognise this is an ongoing process and that’s why being open and transparent in workplaces will always be important to everyone here at JUSTICE."
Jack – Warehouse Team, JUSTICE Professional
Jack, tell us about a woman who inspires you!
"My mum has always been and will always be my biggest inspiration.
She taught me to do my best and appreciate the funny side of life. She is so incredibly kind hearted and always puts others first.
I respect the role mum played in helping me grow into the man I am today."
What does #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
"For me it is about recognising that men have a role to play in this discussion in getting involved, listening and then acting to address and remove the barriers to women that exist in workplaces."
Kass - Marketing Team, JUSTICE Professional
Kass, tell us about a woman who inspires you!
"Gabrielle Chanel. ‘Coco’ laid the foundations for a global retail empire that’s now worth almost $8 billion dollars, and revolutionised women’s’ style and completely transformed the beauty industry.
Her impact and image still inspires creators and continues to resonate even after she’s gone."
What does #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
"Equal opportunity is no longer enough. We need to go a step further and embrace equity.
In this day and age we all have a voice and a platform we can use to challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias and work to promote structural solutions to inclusion.
I’m incredibly proud to live in a time where challenging gender stereotypes and supporting the push for women’s equality is bigger than one day, it’s a global movement, but there’s still more to do."
Kristy - Accounts Team, JUSTICE Professional
Kristy, tell us about a woman who inspires you!
"My Grandma has always been my biggest inspiration!
Gran is strong, smart and independent. She taught me to always back myself and my ideas and to believe and act on my big dreams.
I am the woman I am today because of the example she set for me to aspire to."
What does #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
"For me, embracing equity starts at home.
My husband and I strive to inspire our young daughter and educate her on the importance of identifying discrimination, speaking up and empowering those around her to do the same."
Encourage and rally your friends, family, colleagues, and community to embrace equity.
Together we can work collectively to impact positive change.
Together we can all help forge an equal world.
Let's all embrace equity today, and always.
Let's all step forward and commit to #EmbraceEquity.
